There is no single billing model that fits every project. Hourly cloud capacity is well suited to short, irregular jobs. Renting a whole GPU server by the month instead provides a fixed configuration, exclusive resources and a known cost for the agreed term. The useful comparison starts with your own workload rather than the headline rate in a provider's advert.
See the monthly GPU server offer.
Two different ways to consume GPU capacity
With Bestconnect, one company uses the entire physical machine containing an NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Max-Q Workstation Edition with 96GB of memory. It is not an instance launched by the hour and it is not shared access to a GPU. The configuration, service term and network parameters are recorded in the Order. NVIDIA identifies the exact variant on its official RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell family page.
An hourly cloud service is normally started and stopped through a console or API. The exact isolation model, persistent storage, availability of a particular GPU and billable components depend on the provider. The table therefore compares operating models; it does not claim an advantage over every cloud service.
| Criterion | Whole server billed monthly | GPU billed hourly |
|---|---|---|
| Resource access | a specific physical machine dedicated to the customer | an instance or resource supplied under the provider's model |
| Cost | agreed for the prepaid term and selected options | depends on billable hours and additional charges |
| Readiness | the environment stays on the same server for the service term | instances can be stopped; restart depends on capacity |
| Administration | full control of the operating system | depends on the service type and provider image |
| Scaling | another server requires available hardware and an Order | often available in smaller increments when capacity exists |
| Data | local storage and connectivity defined in the Order | storage, snapshots and egress may be charged separately |
| Location | Katowice, Poland | a region selected from the provider's footprint |
Calculate with your own inputs
Two simple equations provide a useful starting point:
Hourly cloud = instance rate × billable hours + persistent storage + snapshots + transfer + public IP addresses + required software licences.
Monthly server = rental price for the term + selected options, as shown by the calculator and confirmed in the Order.
Do not automatically assume 730 hours of use per month. First measure actual runtime, waiting time between workflow stages, idle periods and the volume of data moved into and out of the platform. Include the engineering time required to rebuild an environment as well.
When a monthly server may fit
Consider a whole server when:
- workloads use the GPU regularly or for long windows;
- you need a stable configuration and local data between runs;
- 96GB of GPU memory is a recurring project requirement;
- control of the operating system, drivers and network services matters;
- the budget should remain predictable throughout the agreed term;
- your team can administer the operating system and maintain backups.
When hourly capacity may fit better
Cloud capacity may be more practical when:
- the project is a short experiment or prototype;
- the GPU is used occasionally and can be fully stopped between jobs;
- you need to change GPU types or counts frequently;
- the team prefers managed services to operating a system;
- there is no confidence that the workload will continue into the next month.
Questions to answer before choosing
- How many GPU hours were actually billed in recent complete months?
- Which charges appear on the bill in addition to GPU runtime?
- Does the workload consistently require 96GB of GPU memory?
- How long does it take to restore data, images and dependencies?
- Does the organisation need a physical location in Poland and fixed public IPv4 addressing?
- Can the team take responsibility for system administration and backups?
